Welcome to the Northern Bioinformatics User Group (Northern BUG). We have regular Northern BUG meetings (currently supported by The Genetics Society), held every few months somewhere in the North of England. The meetings are intended to forge connections between North of England bioinformaticians and to figure out how best to handle high throughput data, particularly from sequencing platforms such as Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore.

Our meetings are now suspended due to lockdown and ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We will announce further meetings as soon as we are able.

NorthernBUG 6 Leeds
NorthernBUG 6 (the Northern Bioinformatics User Group) will be held at the University of Leeds on Friday 24th January 2020. Registration is now open, so please sign up and join in. We’re happy to announce that this meeting also includes an optional morning workshop on ChIP-seq analysis (kindly run by Dr Ian Donaldson and Dr Iros Barozzi).

NorthernBUG 5 Hull
NorthernBUG 5 (the Northern Bioinformatics User Group) will be held at the University of Hull on Monday 9th September 2019. Registration is now open and we are looking forward to another great meeting.

Northern BUG trainers meeting, Sheffield, 9th/10th July 2019
On 9th and 10th July, The University of Sheffield welcomed Bioinformatics trainers from across the Nothern BUG network to come and discuss strategies for sharing training materials and develop common workshops. The workshop was supported with funding from Health Education England and facilitated by Sarah Morgan; Scientific training coordinator from EMBL-EBI.
